Individual Therapy

Life can feel heavy when you are trying to hold everything together on your own. Individual therapy, also called individual counselling, offers a confidential, non-judgmental space to slow down, understand what you are going through, and learn practical tools to cope with anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, grief, and life transitions.

How Can Individual Therapy Support You?

Work with Someone Who Truly Gets You

Individual therapy gives you a space where you do not have to hide how you feel or “be okay.” We listen for the full picture—your history, culture, family, and lived experiences—so you can feel understood as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms.

Learn Tools You Can Actually Use

Using approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Therapy, we focus on practical strategies you can take into your day—managing stress, calming your body, setting boundaries, and responding differently to difficult thoughts and emotions.

Create Changes That Actually Last

Therapy is not only about feeling better in the moment. Through Strength-Based and Solution-Focused Therapy, we build on your strengths, clarify what matters most to you, and support gradual, realistic changes—so the progress you make in sessions can last in your everyday life.

Meet Our Therapists

Our team of experienced therapists provides individual therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, stress, and life transitions. We offer culturally sensitive, inclusive care for BIPOC, 2SLGBTQI+, immigrants, professionals, parents, and young adults—both in-person in North York and online across Ontario.

Individual therapy gives you a steady place to pause, be honest about how you are really doing, and move toward changes that feel possible—at your own pace, with someone alongside you.

It’s starting to feel like too much to carry by yourself.

You have been trying to manage things on your own for a while — work, school, family, health, and everything in between. On the surface, you might seem like you are keeping up, but inside you notice more stress, worry, low mood, or irritability. Things that used to feel manageable now feel heavier, and it is getting harder to relax or feel like yourself.

On the outside, you may look “fine” or even high functioning. Inside, you might feel tired, numb, on edge, or disconnected. Maybe you keep busy, overthink, scroll, or withdraw, and still find yourself wondering: “Why do I feel this way, and how do I actually start feeling better?”

You do not have to sort this out on your own. Coming to individual therapy at Ocean Blue in North York, Toronto, you have a steady, confidential space that is just for you. Together, we slow things down, make sense of what you are going through, and look at how your thoughts, emotions, body, relationships, and past experiences are connected. From there, we focus on practical coping tools and deeper changes, so you can feel more grounded, clearer, and more like yourself again.

How Individual Therapy at Ocean Blue Works

Free 15-Minute Consultation

In your free 15-minute consultation, we talk briefly about what is bringing you to therapy, answer questions, and explore which therapist might be the best fit for you. There is no pressure to commit—this is simply a chance to see if our approach feels comfortable and supportive.

Personalized Therapy Plan

In the first few sessions, we take time to understand your story, what is currently hardest, and what you would like to be different. Together, we create a plan that may include coping tools, skills for boundaries and communication, and space for deeper work around patterns, identity, or past experiences.

Ongoing Support & Adjustments

As therapy progresses, we regularly check in about what is working and what needs to change. Like adjusting sails to shifting wind, we adapt the pace and focus so sessions feel relevant, manageable, and aligned with the life you are trying to build.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or navigating life transitions, therapy can be a supportive space to help you feel more grounded. Whether you are dealing with trauma or seeking help to manage difficult emotions, therapy offers a safe place to explore your feelings and experience personal growth. It is perfectly okay to seek support—it is an important part of taking care of yourself.

Your first session is an opportunity to share your story. We will discuss your background, the concerns currently on your mind, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. It is a time for you to get comfortable and for us to start building a connection. This session is all about understanding how we can support you moving forward, at a pace that feels right for you.

The length of therapy depends on your personal needs and goals. Some people find that short-term therapy is helpful for addressing specific concerns, while others benefit from long-term therapy for deeper self-exploration and growth. We will work together to ensure therapy is as helpful as possible for your unique journey.

Therapy is a deeply personal journey, and we believe it should be tailored to meet your unique needs and goals. At Ocean Blue Therapy, we are committed to connecting you with a therapist and approach that feels like the right fit for you. We understand how important it is to feel comfortable and supported in this process, which is why we offer a free 15-minute consultation with each of our therapists. During this time, you can ask any questions you may have and share your concerns, so we can ensure the care you receive is focused on what matters most to you. We're here to help you feel heard, understood, and supported every step of the way.

We kindly request payment at the time of your session. Afterward, we will provide you with a receipt, which you can easily submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. For your convenience, we accept cash, credit cards, and e-transfers. If you prefer to pay via e-transfer, you can send it to info@oceanbluetherapy.ca. We want to make this process as smooth and comfortable for you as possible.

Insurance coverage can vary, and we understand how confusing it can be to navigate. Unfortunately, OHIP does not cover psychotherapy services, so most of our clients either pay out-of-pocket or use their private insurance. If you have insurance coverage or benefits, it’s important to confirm with your provider whether your policy covers the services provided by your clinician’s specific license—whether that’s a Registered Psychotherapist (R.P.), Social Worker (R.S.W.), or Psychologist (C.Psych. or C.Psych. Assoc.). We’re happy to assist you in any way we can to ensure your therapy journey is as smooth as possible. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
